The Process
- Conditional job offer - Company offers you position pending tests
- Clearinghouse query - They check your federal record
- Drug test - Must be completed before you drive
- Results - Usually within 24-72 hours
- Final hiring decision - Based on all results
Clearinghouse Pre-Employment Query
Per FMCSA rules:
- Employer MUST run full query
- You MUST provide electronic consent
- If violation found, cannot be hired until RTD complete
What If You Have a Prior Violation?
- Completed RTD? You may still be hired (company dependent)
- RTD in progress? Cannot be hired until complete
- Recent violation? Many companies have 3-5 year policies
Previous Employer Checks
Companies must also investigate your last 3 years:
- Drug/alcohol test history from prior employers
- Any violations or refusals
- This is SEPARATE from Clearinghouse
