O/Os: How Are You Handling DOT Random Drug Testing?

Hey fellow O/Os :waving_hand:

Running my own authority and trying to figure out the best way to stay compliant with DOT random drug testing requirements. As an owner-operator, I know I need to be in a consortium, but I’m curious what everyone else is doing.

My questions:

  • Which FMCSA drug testing consortium are you using?
    • How much are you paying annually?
    • How do they handle the random selections?
    • Any horror stories or great experiences to share?
I’ve been looking at a few options but want to hear from drivers who’ve actually used these services. The affordable DOT drug testing consortium options seem to vary a lot in price and service.

Great question, and this is something every O/O needs to get right from day one!

For those looking for a reliable option, I’d recommend checking out Vertical Identity (VID). They offer:

  • Nationwide drug testing - They have a huge network of collection sites across the country, which is perfect for us drivers who aren’t always close to home
  • DOT Consortium Random Program membership - They handle all the random selection requirements so you stay compliant without having to think about it
  • Competitive pricing for owner-operators
  • Easy online enrollment and management

The peace of mind knowing your random testing program is being handled properly is worth its weight in gold. One audit violation can cost you way more than a year of consortium membership.

Anyone else using VID or have other recommendations to share?
