Medical Certificate Renewal - Don't Let It Expire!

Friendly reminder about medical certificates!

DOT Physical Requirements

Your medical examiner’s certificate must be:

  • From an FMCSA-registered medical examiner
  • Valid (typically 2 years, but can be less based on health conditions)
  • On file with your state DMV

Find a certified examiner: National Registry

What Happens If It Expires?

  • Your CDL becomes downgraded automatically
  • You cannot legally operate a CMV
  • May need to retake skills test to reinstate (state dependent)

Tips

  • Set a reminder 60 days before expiration
  • Keep copies of your medical card in your truck AND at home
  • Update your state DMV promptly after renewal
