Drug Testing Updates for CDL Drivers - February 2026

Important update for all CDL holders regarding drug testing requirements.

Current Testing Panel

The DOT 5-panel drug test screens for:

  1. Marijuana (THC)
  2. Cocaine
  3. Amphetamines (including meth)
  4. Opioids
  5. PCP

Note: Even in states where marijuana is legal, it’s still a federal violation for CDL holders!

Clearinghouse Stats

According to recent FMCSA data, positive drug tests remain the #1 reason for Clearinghouse violations. Marijuana accounts for a significant portion of these.

What Happens After a Positive Test?

  1. Immediate removal from safety-sensitive duties
  2. Violation reported to Clearinghouse
  3. Must complete RTD process with a SAP (Substance Abuse Professional)
  4. Follow-up testing required
