The DOT 5-Panel Test

Per 49 CFR Part 40, DOT tests for:

1. Marijuana (THC)

  • Cutoff: 50 ng/mL (screen), 15 ng/mL (confirm)
  • Most common violation

2. Cocaine

  • Cutoff: 150 ng/mL (screen), 100 ng/mL (confirm)
  • Detected 2-4 days typically

3. Amphetamines

  • Includes methamphetamine
  • Cutoff: 500 ng/mL (screen)
  • Prescription ADHD meds may cause positives

4. Opioids

  • Expanded panel includes oxycodone, hydrocodone
  • Prescription painkillers need MRO verification

5. Phencyclidine (PCP)

  • Cutoff: 25 ng/mL
  • Least common positive

Prescription Medications

If you have a valid prescription:

  1. Tell the MRO (Medical Review Officer) AFTER the test
  2. Provide prescription documentation
  3. MRO will determine if it’s a verified negative

What About Alcohol?

Alcohol testing is separate:

  • BAC 0.02-0.039 = 24-hour removal
  • BAC 0.04+ = Full violation
