The Stats
According to FMCSA Clearinghouse data:
- Marijuana accounts for over 50% of all positive drug tests
- Numbers have increased since state legalization
- Many drivers still don’t understand the rules
The Federal Reality
Even if you’re in a state where marijuana is:
- Recreationally legal
- Medically prescribed
- Completely decriminalized
It doesn’t matter. CDL holders are under FEDERAL jurisdiction.
Detection Windows
THC can be detected:
- Urine: 3-30+ days
- Hair: Up to 90 days
- Blood: 1-7 days
What About CBD?
CBD products can contain trace THC. The DOT does NOT recognize CBD as an excuse for a positive test. Use at your own risk.
Protect Your Career
- Abstain completely if you want to drive
- Don’t trust “detox” products
- Be honest with yourself about usage
- Know that one mistake = 5 year record
