The Core Rules
11-Hour Driving Limit
- Max 11 hours driving after 10 consecutive hours off duty
14-Hour On-Duty Limit
- All work must be within 14-hour window
- Clock doesn’t stop for breaks or non-driving work
30-Minute Break
- Required after 8 cumulative hours of driving
- Can be on-duty not driving OR off-duty
60/70 Hour Limit
- 60 hours in 7 days OR 70 hours in 8 days
- Based on your carrier’s operating schedule
The 34-Hour Restart
To reset your 60/70 hour clock:
- Take 34 consecutive hours off duty
- Completely resets available hours
Exceptions
Several exceptions exist:
- Short-haul exemption: 150 air-mile radius
- Adverse driving conditions: Up to 2 extra hours
- 16-hour exception: Once per 7 days (certain conditions)
